Building Excellence on Bainbridge Island and
Surrounding Kitsap County

ROOTED IN CRAFTSMANSHIP.

We believe in building trust as carefully as we build homes.

For nearly 50 years, Fairbank Construction has collaborated with some of the region's most talented artisans to build custom homes and community spaces that blend modern design with the timeless character of the Pacific Northwest.

As the go-to builder on Bainbridge Island and throughout Kitsap County, we don’t simply build in our communities; we build for them.

“We like our builder even more than when we started. We struck the deal with Sharen and Tad on a handshake. I knew who they were and that their reputation was that solid. You can't do that with everyone, but I could do it with them.”

- Wayne Sundberg

Featured Project Highlight

See how we transformed a dark, disjointed hillside property into a luminous waterfront sanctuary by making light our primary building material. The 6,880-square-foot waterfront property in Bremerton had a stunning location, tucked below its neighbors on a sloped hillside with sweeping views of the Port Orchard waterway. However, decades of piecemeal additions had created a dark, segmented interior that didn’t do justice to the home’s siting and the couple’s lifestyle. For this project, light was the biggest challenge, but also the greatest opportunity.  As the custom home builder for this top-to-bottom remodel, our team of craftsmen executed a complex residential construction project. Drawing from the vision of Rhodes Architecture + Light, we transformed the interiors by inserting a two-story, glass-walled atrium at the entry and a sculptural staircase that connected the upper and lower living areas. This effectively turned the shadows that pervaded the old structure into a beacon of light that now illuminates the clients’ extensive art collection.  Today, the Bremerton Residence doubles as a stunning sanctuary for the couple’s everyday lives and an intimate gallery of the art they’ve collected together over the years.

How We Build Together

At Fairbank Construction, we build with you. Our process is a partnership, designed to eliminate surprises and keep your project on track from our first conversation to the final walkthrough.

It starts with listening. Once we understand your vision and budget, we’ll hand-pick your team—including a dedicated project manager and on-site superintendent—to work alongside your architect and designers.

With almost five decades of experience, we have gained access to the region's most trusted vendors and craftspeople. We "value-engineer" your project, using these partnerships to find smart, creative solutions that honor your budget.

Our Story

Across the island, many of Bainbridge’s defining structures trace back to one name: Fairbank. However, our story here began more as a circumstance than a part of a business plan. In 1982, our founder, Tad Fairbank, moved his family to the island after being enamored by its locale. The business, founded in 1978, soon followed. As more and more families came seeking their own piece of the island’s small town charm and natural splendor, they needed a builder they could trust. We were the right people, in the right place, at the right time. We brought an unforeseen level of organization, marked by timely schedules and careful budget monitoring. This foundation of integrity and craftsmanship is why we became—and remain—a trusted partner across Bainbridge Island and the Pacific Northwest.

Rooted in Bainbridge Island & Kitsap County

Our Fairbank Construction team of craftsmen and specialists don’t just work on Bainbridge Island and throughout Kitsap County—we live here. In addition to our intimate knowledge of the locale, our nearly five-decade presence in the industry has enabled us to forge lasting relationships with the region’s most trusted suppliers, subcontractors, and artisans.

“We get to work alongside the most talented people while making someone’s dreams come true. It doesn’t get better than that.”

- Tad Fairbank

As part of this community ourselves, we’re dedicated to sustainable building practices that honor and protect the region we call home. We’re proud to have built many of this region's lasting spaces, from legacy homes to public-facing commercial construction.

FAQs

What areas do you serve?

Fairbank Construction began on Bainbridge Island more than four decades ago and now proudly serves clients throughout Kitsap County and the Western Sound. From custom homes and ADUs to remodels and specialty projects, we work with homeowners across Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Kingston, Silverdale, Bremerton, Port Ludlow, Port Gamble, Port Townsend, and surrounding communities.

Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?

Yes. We build custom homes, ADUs, and residential remodels, and we also have a long history of delivering commercial projects throughout Kitsap County. Our commercial experience includes multi-family developments, professional office buildings, retail spaces, community facilities, and churches.
Whether residential or commercial, our approach is the same—thoughtful planning, skilled craftsmanship, and a well-managed process that supports your goals from design through completion.

How long does a custom home build typically take?

Every home is unique, but most custom home builds range from 12 to 24 months, depending on size, architectural complexity, permitting, and site conditions. From early planning through final walkthrough, we work closely with clients, architects, and designers to create a predictable, well-managed building experience.

Can you help with design, or should I bring my own architect?

You are welcome to bring your own architect or designer—Fairbank has long-standing relationships with many of the region’s most respected professionals.
If you’re starting without a design team in place, we’re happy to recommend architects and designers whose style, process, and values align well with your vision. Our approach is collaborative from the beginning, ensuring your goals, budget, and timeline stay aligned throughout the project.
